This year I was in Hawaii as the calendar turned to spring. I had been playfully counting down its arrival for 60 days… and now it has finally arrived.
Each week in my yoga classes I would announce it is ____ more days until Spring and together we would take a sigh and secretly wonder if it really would return.
Spring is my favorite season. It encourages us to plant some, grow some and bloom some. People start to feel more vibrant and emerge from the dark & cold energy of winter.
I recently read of something called RSG- restricted spring growth. It is a set of symptoms seen in some grape vines in spring. It is caused by a range of factors and is not a disease in itself. Generally, vines affected by the condition exhibit poor growth early in the season.
Sharing the words of Dr. Wayne Dyer, “Personal growth doesn’t end when you finish school. The moment you’ve stopped growing you can say that you’ve stopped living.”
Individuals who use self-labels are stating, “I am a finished product in this area, and I’m never going to be any different.” If you’re a finished product all tied up and put away, you’ve stopped growing.
So I find myself contemplating areas of my life that I might be thinking I am a finished product here…done growing… staying put in my comfort zone. I don’t want the RSG condition to take up residency in my life. So I ask myself the question, “how can I continue to grow?”, in each of these areas; personal relationships, spiritual life, financial health, personal well-being, community connection, mental health. It might be one small step towards expanding my knowledge or awareness in these areas but that is at least moving forward and growing.
Always be blooming!!
